5 HMS students compete in International Academic Regional Competition
HTSD congratulates the five HMS sixth-grade students who qualified for and competed at the International Academic Regional Competitions (IAC) in March! Students had to first qualify with an online exam and could choose between Geography, History, or Science Bees. Two students, Colton Phillips and J.J. Jacquel, qualified for the IAC National Championships taking place from May 23-27 in Orlando, Florida!
The following students competed at the April IAC Regionals:
- Mackenzie Hotovec – History, Geography, and Science
- Adelaide Smith – Geography
- Gwen Okerberg – Science
- J.J. Jacquel – History and Geography*
- Colton Phillips – History*

IAC is an organization dedicated to giving students around the world the chance to compete in engaging, challenging, and exciting tournaments that are focused on history, geography, science, and other academic disciplines. IAC offers regional, national, and international competitions for students in grades K-12 through competitions including the National History Bee, National History Bowl, National Geography Bee, National Science Bee, and many others.
