Local veterans honored during 2022 Hampton Heroes program
Blue skies and sunshine set the stage for the 2022 Hampton Heroes ceremony as five local veterans were inducted into the program on Thursday, Nov. 3 at Fridley Field.
This year, five Hampton Heroes were inducted into the program that honors and recognizes local veterans for their service:
- Shawn Barber, U.S. Army
- Nicholas DiCaprio, U.S. Marine Corps
- Robert Gettings, U.S. Marine Corps
- John E. Myros, U.S. Navy
- Patrick James Peavornick, U.S. Marines Corps
The Nov. 3 service included performances by the Hampton High School Choir and Hampton High School Wind Ensemble. Guest speaker Dr. Elaine Berkowitz, a retired member of the Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel with 38 years of service, shared her story with the entire Hampton High School student body in attendance. Dr. Berkowitz was deployed four times for service, garnering numerous medals and awards.
Following the service, Hampton High School hosted a “Living Museum” during lunch periods. Six veterans participated and displayed their photos, uniforms, letters, equipment, and awards from their military service. High school students took advantage of the opportunity to learn about their experience and stories while serving the United States in the military.
Since 2001, over 200 local veterans have been inducted as Hampton Heroes and recognized during our annual program around Veterans Day. Hampton High School hosted this year’s Hampton Heroes program.
